Unless you have been booked in for urgent treatment, in which case details of this will have been discussed with you, your first visit will involve a general consultation. You will also be asked to complete a Registration and Medical History Form for our records.

A complete and thorough examination of your mouth will be conducted. X-rays may be taken of your teeth and we will talk to you about your general expectations or concerns. Generally, your teeth will be scaled and cleaned and a remineralisation agent will be placed on your teeth. We will also advise and work with you on a strategic preventative dental program based on best-practice oral hygiene and regular scheduled check-ups, to maximise your long-term dental health and minimise unplanned dental emergencies.

If further dental treatment is required, we will fully discuss with you what it entails and the costs associated with the treatment. In some circumstances it may be necessary to have additional consultation appointments to refine your final treatments.

Regular routine dental checks and professional cleaning are a vital part of a long-term dental preventative program. In this way we are also able to identify any emerging dental problems you may have and treat them before they become more serious. We send reminder notices on a six monthly basis to advise when your check-up is due.

It is our experience that patients who keep to a regular check-up schedule enjoy less frequent and less costly treatment visits than patients who are seen less regularly.

Regular flossing and brushing teeth at home are undoubtedly important parts of maintaining good oral hygiene. Despite this, over a period of time plaque build-up can occur and this requires professional dental cleaning to remove. This is commonly recommended at six monthly intervals but will depend on your individual circumstances. If in doubt we will advise a recommended interval.

Cleaning was traditionally provided by the dentist as well as oral health education and dental therapy duties. However, due to the importance of these areas of treatment there has been a shift towards specialised professionals who are able to spend more time with patients and their individual needs.

X-rays are a vital part of your preventative dental program, as they identify possible hidden tooth decay or gum and bone disorders not immediately apparent through a visual oral inspection.

Dental appointments, and particularly those set for check-ups and general consultation, are generally booked within a week or two. We have a cancellation list so if you have a particular day or time that you are available we will endeavour to accommodate you.

If you are experiencing toothache, or a dental trauma such as a broken tooth, immediately contact our reception staff advising of your problem. We will then consult the clinical staff and an appointment will be scheduled at the very earliest possible time.

You should contact the practice as soon as possible, and particularly if you are in pain. If you are in pain, a priority appointment at the earliest possible time will be scheduled.

If you have had a tooth extracted, or have missing teeth, dental implants, can be fitted to provide the foundation for an effective replacement of the missing teeth. Your dentist will happily discuss what the process involves, its costs and other alternative treatments available to you.

There are various professional tooth whitening processes available and the most appropriate method will be discussed with you by your dentist.

Children can have their first baby teeth appear from the age of four months on, and it is advisable for them to be professionally checked from around their second birthday, or earlier if you prefer. Early dental prevention and education is the best way to ensure they do not develop problems with their teeth and become accustomed to regular check-ups when young. By establishing this early routine your children will grow comfortable with dental visits, accepting them as a routine part of normal life, and certainly nothing to be anxious about.
